Ever-increasing growth & consumption is not possible on a finite planet.
It ought not to be necessary to make this statement, but many of our politicians and business leaders seem to be acting as though it's not true.
They talk and act as if the market and technology will fix everything. A prime example of this line of thinking is the book The Rational Optimist: How Prosperity Evolves 
by Matt Ridley , a pillar of the establishment. There's a foolish recommendation from Boris Johnson on the front cover "A triumphant blast on the vuvuzela of common sense".
